There are a number of new pieces of Employment legislation coming in on 1 October 2015. In a series of posts, our People Director, Allison Peasgood summarises the top five changes that will come into force in October:
1. Sikh safety helmet exemption extended to all workplaces
From 1 October 2015 Sikh employees with have their exemption to wear turbans, rather than safety helmets on construction sites, extended to all workplaces. Sikhs will now be able to wear a turban, and not a safety helmet, in workplaces like warehouses, factories and vehicles involved in transportation. There are still a few restrictions, but mainly for emergency response workers of the armed forces.
Employers are advised to check their employment and Health and Safety documentation, including their Diversity & Equality Procedures and PPE Policies.
