We are well into April now, and there have been some changes to Employment Law that you may need to be aware of, as they may affect your organisation.
The first of these comes in the form of an Auto-Enrolment Contribution to employer and employee pensions as of the 6th April 2019. The employer’s minimum contribution increased from 2% to 3%, and employee contributions have gone up from 3% to 5%.
Employee Pay Slips are an area that has seen change, with the right to an itemised payslip being extended to workers. Also new in April is what goes onto a payslip, as they must state the number of hours being paid where the employee’s wages vary in accordance with hours worked. If different types of work provide varying payment, hours must detail this too.
Changes to settled status are also significant, as EU workers are now able to obtain settled or pre-settled status, allowing them to live and work in the UK after 31st December 2020.
To achieve this, EU citizens must have lived in the United Kingdom continuously for five years. If the residence is less than this, they will be issued with pre-settled status.
One important and final update is reporting on the Gender Pay Gap. Organisations with 250+ employees will be required to produce a gender pay gap report comparing figures with April 2018. These comparisons are intended to showcase whether progress has been made on closing the gender pay gap.
