The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Regulations have now been finalised and they will come into force on 1 April 2016. Most notably for employers, however, is that they now introduce the concept of the National Living Wage (NLW).
The NLW, announced by the Government last year, will increase the rate of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) payable to workers aged 25 or over.
The new minimum wages from 1 April 2016 will, therefore, be:
Age |
Amount (per hour) |
25 or over |
£7.20 |
21 to 24 (inclusive) |
£6.70 |
18 to 20 (inclusive) |
£5.30 |
Under 18 |
£3.87 |
Apprentices |
£3.30 |
Further increases in the NLW are due to follow shortly.
