The NEBOSH Diploma requires 475 hours to complete, including taught learning hours, self study hours, and assessment hours.

  • Taught Learning Hours: The taught element of the course has a minimum of 191 hours. These are either done through online learning materials or in a tutor led environment.
  • Self-Study Hours: You’ll need to complete research and additional study to support and consolidate your learning. NEBOSH recommends 144 hours of self-study hours to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.
  • Assessment Hours: There are 140 assessment hours for the NEBOSH Diploma; 60 for ND1, 40 for ND2, and 40 for ND3. You’ll have a 4-6 week window to complete your assessment hours, which equates to around 10 hours of work each week.

NEBOSH qualifications can play an important part in ensuring that the health and safety provision businesses have in place is effective. This may explain why so many organisations choose to include NEBOSH qualifications on their competency matrices. NEBOSH research has shown that 87% of UK HSE vacancies ask for a NEBOSH qualification.

The NEBOSH Diploma is a powerful qualification for ambitious professionals already working in health and safety, such as:

  • Health and Safety Managers, Advisors, or Officers
  • Compliance Managers
  • Training Coordinators
  • Quality, Risk, and Environmental workers
  • Engineers
  • Consultants
  • Directors

The NEBOSH General is a great place to start with your health and safety learning. It covers a broad range of topics and is the ideal course for those looking to start their health and safety career.

The NEBOSH Diploma is a more advanced course aimed at those who are already working in a health and safety role.

The biggest changes to the specifications are;

  • The teaching time has been reduced by 14%, so a classroom course that was previously taught over 35 days, can be taught in 30 days
  • There are 3 assignments instead of 4
  • All assessments can be completed remotely, i.e do not require you to attend an invigilated examination venue.
  • Content from the November 2015 specification, that also forms part of the National General certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, is now classed as ‘prior learning’ and is not included in the July 2022 specification.

No, the enrolment period will still be for 5 years. As with the November 2015 specification the enrolment start date will initially be the date that you complete the enrolment, However, once you pass a unit, the enrolment start date will move to the declaration date of that unit.

Employers rely on the NEBOSH Diploma to help equip Health & Safety Professionals with the knowledge and practical, skills they need to do their job effectively. To make sure the Diploma remains fit for purpose, we regularly review the syllabus in line with the formal qualification development cycle.

Yes. These are different to the previous syllabus, there are now 2 open book online assessments (similar to the NEBOSH Certificate) which students get a month to complete.

There is also a written report to be completed, similar to the old Unit D. This all means that the new Diploma takes 365 hours to complete compared to the previous 500.

It is important to note that if you are already a student and have already sat an exam, you have to stay on the old syllabus and assessments methods until you complete the course. But if you are a new student, you will automatically enrol on the new syllabus. If you have started the course, but haven’t sat an exam yet, you can also transfer.

The release date is the date you will be able to download the assessment paper and start work on your assessment.

Your completed assessment must then be uploaded / submitted to NEBOSH by the date specified.

You will have the following time periods to complete each assessment.

  • Unit ND1; 6 weeks (30 working days)
  • Unit ND2; 4 weeks (20 working days)
  • Unit ND3; 4 weeks (20 working days)

Yes, once you have achieved a pass in each of the unit assessments (ND1, ND2 & ND3) you will have completed the qualification which will then be graded. The grading is based on the combined percentage mark for the 3 units and the following grading boundaries are then applied;

  • Distinction 226 or higher
  • Credit 196-225
  • Pass 150 -195

Written work will be required throughout the qualification in the form of assessments, notes and exercises. There are also practice exam questions and the exams themselves are now a written assignment, case studies and made up of online assessments.

The courses will take place at our purpose-built training facilities here at OMS in Leicestershire. Free tea and coffee are provided with biscuits and sweets in our break-out room.

The NEBOSH National Diploma is taught over 30 days (six five-day blocks) with ongoing tutor support. In total, the NEBOSH National Diploma requires in the region of 475 study hours – 191 taught classroom hours and approximately 144 hours of private study and 140 assessment hours.

Group sizes vary depending on course and interest, but we do like to ensure a broad range of industries and experience. We can accommodate up to 20 on the courses.

The cost for this qualification is £5,595+VAT per person.

For individuals, who are paying for the course themselves, we can offer a staggered payment plan. Please enquire with the team for further details.

It is OMS and NEBOSH policy that all candidates should be given access to fair and equal assessment. Our “Policy and procedures for access arrangements, reasonable adjustments and special consideration” ensures that no candidate is placed at an unfair disadvantage, or advantage, over other candidates. In so doing, NEBOSH aims to comply both with legislation intended to prevent unfair discrimination and with the criteria laid down by the regulatory authorities. Below are examples of arrangements available.

    • Access arrangements allow candidates with special educational needs, disabilities and temporary injuries to access assessment. For example, by providing a reader, scribe or a word processor.
    • Reasonable Adjustments can be made where a candidate, who is disabled within the meaning of the Equality Act 2010, would be at a substantial disadvantage in comparison to someone who is not disabled. NEBOSH is required to take reasonable steps to overcome that disadvantage. For example, a Braille paper which would be a reasonable adjustment for a visually impaired person who could read Braille.
    • Special consideration can be applied for candidates who are present for the assessment but may have been disadvantaged by temporary illness, bereavement, injury or adverse circumstances that arose at or near the time of assessment.

If you would like to apply for any of the above arrangements please contact here at OMS directly to discuss your requirements. We will then complete your application to NEBOSH on your behalf.
