BMC is the top specialist College in the country. The Big BMC Transformation has seen a £27.7 million investment in brand new state-of-the-art facilities for the College and BMC is fast becoming the East Midlands leading provider of specialist education. Based in Melton Mowbray, the College covers two main sites and their facilities include Brooksby Hall, a Rural Catering Centre, Melton Theatre, Brooksby Equestrian Centre, and a Beauty Salon.
OMS were initially commissioned to help support the College through its Investors in People accreditation and our consultants supported them through this process right through to a very successful conclusion. Since then, OMS have provided ongoing HR support and guidance to the HR and Senior Leadership Teams on a number of high profile projects including college-wide restructure; implementation of a new suite of HR policies and procedures; project-management of a TUPE transfer; implementation of a college-wide competency framework; a review and revision of the remuneration strategy with updated, benchmarked salary scales; development of new sickness absence procedures, including a new stress management process; and the development of simple, step-by-step managers guides for HR procedures.
"OMS have worked with the College over a number of years providing high-level, strategic HR support to me and my Senior Leadership Team. Although we have an HR team in place, OMS have provided an invaluable, senior external resource when we have needed it.
As well as assisting me personally on a number of particularly sensitive matters, they have guided us through a variety of large-scale change management projects, including trade union negotiations, restructuring /redundancies, implementation of new policies and procedures and the implementation of a highly effective stress management tool. They also supported us in achieving Investors in People and have handled individual employee relations issues, which needed an impartial pair of eyes. I would highly recommend their team who have always provided us with professional, astute advice in the best interests of the College."
Chris Ball, Chief Executive Officer, Brooksby Melton College
"OMS conducted Absence Management training for managers at Brooksby Melton College. This invaluable training covered the importance of the Return to Work Interview, for every individual, every time they are absent through sickness from work. The session was interactive and also included a video presentation which helped to demonstrate several scenarios and how a manager should deal with each situation. Training on practical tools for dealing with stress management and facilitating a timely return to work for staff was insightful, this complex issue being explained clearly so that we as an organisation can resolve problems quickly to the benefit of all staff. Our absence overall is currently reduced by 40% YOY, which is a huge benefit to the organisation, and a credit to the focused and relevant training delivered by OMS - highly recommended!"
