Elevating your site safety awareness

CITB Health and Safety Awareness courses are always on the course calendar here at OMS for a few reasons. In this article we’ll review why these are running, how you can access them, and why you should train here, at the OMS Leicestershire based centre. This immensely popular training course is required for all those who want to apply for a CSCS Green Labourers Card.

What will you learn on the CITB course?

CITB H&S awareness training provides an excellent insight into the basics of health and safety, at the end of the course delegates will understand the following:

  • Why there is a need to prevent accidents happening on site
  • The health and safety law and what this means in practice
  • How everyone is responsible for H&S on site
  • Risk assessments and methods statements essentials
  • How to ask advice on performing safely in your role
  • Accident reporting and why it’s important

Everything is covered in this 1-day training course which is held here at our Leicestershire based training centre which has air conditioning for the hot summer months.

Who should attend this training?

This course is designed for people who have entered or are looking to enter the civil engineering and construction industry in a practical job role.

Those who attend will understand what is expected of them onsite to undertake their job to the highest possible safety standards to ensure they always keep themselves and their colleagues safe.

CITB accredited training

We are a CITB Approved Training Organisation. What does this mean?

OMS are recognised by CITB, as well as the British Construction Industry, as a training provider who deliver good quality training that meets the industry approved standards.

What else do you need to know?

CITB Funding and its automated grant process is available for many of our courses here at OMS, for all registered companies. All information is available here.

There are several courses running throughout July and August, you can easily book online or call OMS if you have a number of colleagues who need to undertake this health and safety training.

Please note that each delegate is required to bring with them the following: Photo ID, Date of Birth, National Insurance Number and current CITB card (if applicable).

Meet our trainers

There are 3 trainers who deliver this course here at OMS, Roger, David and Stefan. They are a team of highly experienced health and safety practitioners with experience in a range of publica and private sectors. They all have construction industry SHE experiences ensuring they are versatile and effective SHE trainers for the CITB Health and Safety Awareness training course.

What our delegates say

“The instructor had relevant ‘muddy boots’ experience and related the course well to real life scenarios. He made a point of not only covering the syllabus but also gave top tips on the exam style and highlighted any areas that may have caused confusion with previous delegates to maximise pass rate. What I will say is that if you are at all unsure or simply not confident with exams then please, speak up. The instructor and other staff members (thanks David) went the extra mile to support me and not once did I feel a nuisance with my constant questions. When all’s said and done I am a paying customer and I’ve paid for instruction to get me through the exam. I got what I paid for and I’d be more than happy to use OMS future courses.” From Lorelli who attended the 1 day CITB H&S Awareness Course.

Thanks very much for the Health and Safety seminar last week, I have had some very good reactions to the 2 days from all the participants.

I think it is the first time I have seen auditors still smiling after a two day course and a number of auditors have said to me that it is the best course they have ever been on. From a personal point of view I thoroughly enjoyed the course and, being a course presenter/trainer myself, I know how difficult it can be keeping an “audience” engaged on what can be a very dry subject - but you did it. These courses are the first time we have used OMS as a training provider but they will be our provider of choice in the future.

Inchcape Shipping Services have been working with OMS for some time on a number of high profile projects. They have successful delivered a range of safety training courses for our employees, as well as carrying Health and Safety and Quality Consultancy services, both in the UK and internationally. I have found that OMS have always provided us with services of a very high standard, their consultants are always attentive and proactive and they provided creative, on-time solutions that have added tremendous value to our business.

Simon Peters

Senior Vice President – Liner Operations, Inchcape Shipping Services

In my dealings with OMS I have found the consultants to be knowledgeable and capable trainers for Health and Safety training courses, and their Office Support for administration of courses to be both efficient and effective. I would not hesitate to recommend OMS as a provider of Health and Safety training.
