OMS are pleased to have added the IOSH Safety, Health and Environmental course for Construction Site Managers to their construction course portfolio.
IOSH SHE training is the ideal qualification for those in construction who occupy a managerial or supervisory roles.
OMS has extensive experience within the construction industry, with many of our trainers spending their career working within SHE roles in before retraining. Every delegate who attends OMS can be assured that the IOSH SHE course will not be delivered in a ‘one size fits all’ training manner. Our trainers spend time understanding the setting which delegates work on a day to day basis, and provide real life, tangible examples throughout the training.
The cost to construction businesses of accidents, illness and deaths is upwards of £3.1 billion every year alongside the working days lost which is over 2 million (2022 statistics). Training is a key element in protecting workers within the industry to support the implementation of the thorough regulations for health and safety the UK has in place.
The course provides a comprehensive way to shift mindset for managing health and safety for you and your workforce, gifting reassurance and confidence in job at hand. The course can drastically improve safety awareness culture throughout a business and can help boost productivity with fewer days lost to injury or sickness. This qualification drives through a progressive attitude towards health and safety and instructs on how to be more pro-active, not reactive.
OMS follow the IOSH curriculum and deliver course content which includes:
This IOSH construction course has been specifically designed for the construction industry; and is for anyone who works on a site where they have responsibility for health and safety. So whilst the course infers that’s the site manager it can cover anyone in a management or supervisory position who works on the frontline.
This course will dramatically improve the safety awareness of the people who attend which is in turn will help your workforce or site with their culture. Proactive health and safety management is a better course of action for any construction site and this course advocates that approach instead of reactive one. Key issues will be reviewed alongside all of the requirements for the welfare and safety of construction workers who are on site daily.
The IOSH SHE for Construction Site Managers is running at our training centre here in Leicestershire, on 31st July (limited spaces) and again on the 6th November. These courses are available to book now HERE.
If you’d like a more tailored approach for your construction business our Head of Learning, Laura Burton, can book an appointment to create a course delivery for your team either at your site or here at our modern training centre. Get in touch with Laura via info@oms.uk.com.
Stefan Harris is the lead trainer for the IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers Training. He has been delivering on-site training for approximately 20 years as part of his role within the construction industry. After completing a teaching qualification, he became a full-time trainer for OMS, starting in September 2022 and now delivers courses that cover many aspects of health and safety in the workplace.
Stefan has spent 35 years working within the construction sector. He’s been a site safety supervisor (Black Hat) and a Site Manager for many years and says “I have always kept my hand in on the tools and am very experienced in several trades but I have spent the last twenty years or so installing bespoke products joinery for commercial clients and hotel chains.”
We asked Stefan what he enjoyed most about delivering the IOSH SHE training course?
“I really enjoy delivering the IOSH SHE because it was the very first IOSH qualification that I took and the one that set me on the journey to where I am now. Environmental sustainability is becoming more prominent within the thinking of construction companies and I believe that this qualification is the ideal foundation for construction site managers to play a key role in ensuring the health and safety of the workforce, whilst creating a smaller environmental footprint through less wastage and more sustainable practices, which ultimately leads to increased profits.”
IOSH courses provide more than a theoretical understanding of health and safety within a workplace. The courses have been designed to teach practical tools and techniques which are highly relevant to the construction industry. You can be assured that every delegate who attends an IOSH course will gain a high standard of training.
Combine this with OMS’s high quality trainers who have experience from the construction industry and you can be reassured that this investment in training will have quick and very visible returns.
IOSH understands that once people have been trained using their courses that they can contribute to improving or maintaining a safe working environment as they’ve seen that from the 100,000 health and safety professionals who have undergone IOSH training.
